About

My name is Julie Gilliam and I work at the University of Maryland School of Social Work in instructional technology.  I view my role as a catalyst to moving our school forward by learning new technologies and instructing faculty on how to use these tools in the classroom.  Some of these technologies include a virtual dental school, web conferencing, mobile technology, mac/iPad support, and audio/visual learning objects. I have been with the University Maryland System since 2002 and enrolled at the University of Baltimoreʼs doctoral program. Even though I almost have four degrees, I never lose sight of my struggles with learning. I hope at the end of the day, I make a difference by helping faculty help students.

Instructional Technology - Julie's current instructional technology responsibilities include audio/visual support, mobile and web development, and support of the educational learning systems. She also provides technical expertise for the content management system, haptic devices, software/hardware,  Macintosh platforms, web conferencing technologies, and Second Life.

Publications - Developed mobile application prototype using iWebkit5, tested haptic devices for dental education and created multimedia tool for clinic use.

Awards - Julie received the Turner Research and Travel Award for student travel to Apple's World Wide Developer 2011 conference in San Francisco to support her doctoral research.
